Made in Taiwan, manufactured in China, Made in Hong Kong. We have all seen these printed on the majority of our purchases these days, but when it comes down to gadgets, where are they really conceived and invented? Gadget Inventors Are Closer To Home Than You ThinkI am sure that all adults have seen the TV program ‘Dragons Den that has been a favourite of mine over past few years. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of inventions that are brought before the ‘Dragons’.When I say inventions, what I mean are inventive new gadgets . It may interest you to know that despite everything the majority of the worlds inventions are still conceived in the UK. There are many British people who in the shed or garage at home, develop there own ideas and come up with gadgets for men to solve all sorts of everyday problems. Some of you may say that when you purchase these new gadgets that the packaging states that it is manufactured in China or Taiwan We all know that manufacturing in the UK has been in decline for the past thirty years and that production of everything from cars to everyday items for the home has been outsourced to other countries where labour charges are considerably less and therefore finished items are more affordable to the consumer. However, although the manufacturing has been mainly outsourced, the invention of new gadgets still takes place to a greater extent in the UK. After a gadget is conceived and designed in the UK, a cheaper manufacturer is sourced outside, but as a rule inventors have to be very careful because particularly in China, if a device it totally manufactured by one factory, then the concept will be taken and counterfeit devices will suddenly appear in volume, without any remuneration to the original inventor. International laws have not been able to fully clamp down on this underhand practice to date So, the next time you pick up your latest gadget it is worth remembering that it may have been conceived and invented much closer to home than you might think. Having said that. It is also worth remembering that if it wasn’t for cheaper manufacturing being available outside the UK, then your new gadgets would certainly be much less affordable |
