I remember that having fun at work used to be all part of the environment. Having a joke with colleagues was always a way to break up the day. I know that many will say that picking on the ‘new boy’ or ‘new girl’ was a form of bullying, but I truly believe that interacting with work mates this way enabled new-comers to be accepted and integrated. When I first started work and arrived on ‘the shop floor’ all manner of tricks were played upon me. We have all heard stories of someone being sent to the stores for ‘a long weight (wait)’. It really was just harmless fun and as a result we became sharper, smarter and became accepted.

Times have changed somewhat. Political correctness, health and safety and other restrictive laws have ruled that some of this behavior is now deemed as being unlawful, but it doesn’t mean that there still cannot be fun in the office.
