I have been to many parties over the years, but over the past few things have changed. At house parties, we all used to stand around with our beer cans chatting, listening to music and stuffing ourselves with sausages on sticks,crisps and sandwiches. Now everybody turns up carrying all of their latest gadgets. The main gadget on show is the mobile phone. These days its not just the functionality that impresses. Some of ladies have phones in their favourite colours and there are even designer phones such as Prada mobiles, but when it comes down to making an impression, its down to speed of Internet connection, how many megapixels the camera is and how clear and big the screen is. Masculinity is in gadgets for men !

Other latest gadgets on offer are an array of MP3 players. People actually take their IPod along to a house party so that they can offer their music collection. Instead of talking about work and other things, partygoers will exchange pictures, jokes and fun files by bluetooth. Small groups will gather to exchange, but really the prime reason is to show of their latest gadgets to their friends. There always seems to one person there who has the new iPhone or some obscure gadget that nobody has ever seen, but everyone seems impressed by

The fact is that latest gadgets or not we still all end up having too much to eat and drink. The latter is where the problems start because the more everybody drinks, the more they find new ways to have fun and this means using their fun gadgets to good effect. Out come the cameras and ‘risky’ photographs get taken. Out come the phones and then texts get sent that maybe should have stayed in the authors thoughts. It all seems part of the fun these days, but the morning after, with a hangover, the phone has to come out again to make some apologies
